Fleas
Contrary
to popular opinion fleas do not live on cats & dogs, they
merely jump on for a feed before finding a site in carpets and soft
furnishings in which to lay their eggs,
As all development stages of the flea will be found in the habitat of
the host, i.e. the carpets and soft fabrics it is essential that this
area is thoroughly treated. If there is any pet that might carry fleas
then this animal must be treated using an insecticide shampoo or powder
obtainable from your veterinarian. The bedding of the animal must be
cleaned regularly. If you use a vacuum then it is advisable to use a
small amount of crawling insect powder inside the bag.
It is often necessary to make two treatment visits as flea eggs and
pupae have a high degree of resistance to insecticides and can survive
without feeding for many months. In order to try and minimise this we
add a growth hormone to the treatment tank.
If you are getting bites in offices etc where there is no cat or dog it
is unlikely to be fleas as they cannot breed without the presence of a
cat, dog or fox. They cannot breed on human blood.
Fleas are intermediate hosts of tapeworms and therefore should be
treated as soon as discovered.
Typical costs
Fleas £75 - £150 (for up to two visits - domestic
dwellings)
